Why I Created Great Canadian Cooking

Great Canadian Cooking is the blending of all my worlds: the professionally trained chef, the nurturer, the traveller, the teacher, the advocate. I started this blog to celebrate everything I love about Canadian food—not just the classics like butter tarts, poutine, or bannock, but also the incredible multicultural flavours that reflect our nation's rich diversity.

Canada is home to food from every corner of the globe. In my kitchen—and on this blog—you’ll find stories and recipes inspired by my travels, my relationships, and the people who have welcomed me into their kitchens around the world.

I love authentic food. I love discovering it, learning from it, and sharing it with others. That’s what this blog is all about.

Let’s Cook Something Meaningful

Everything I post here has been tested, tasted, and shared with love. These aren’t just recipes—they’re stories. I write them like we’re old friends chatting at the kitchen table. I believe food should be honest, soulful, and a little adventurous. I want to help you find joy in your kitchen, whether you're recreating a nostalgic family dish or trying something totally new.

So welcome, friend. I’m so glad you’ve found Great Canadian Cooking. Let’s explore flavours, tell stories, and cook something beautiful—together.

With warmth and gratitude,

Jo Schultz and family
